Hi, I'm Anne.
I am currently in my final semester as a graduate student at the University of Louisville School of Public Health and Information Sciences, seeking my Masters in Public Health degree. I will graduate in May, 2013. I received my undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Louisville in 2011.
For the past year, I have worked with a team that manages a health database for refugees in Kentucky, currently consisting of over 6,000 entries. My responsibilities include entering data, updating the database to reflect changes in the health care process, and analyzing data results to include in monthly and quarterly reports. Through these experiences I have gained proficiency in Microsoft Access and Excel as well as SPSS and RedCap, an online database software. Management of the database involves coordination and communication with health care providers in a number of health clinics across the state.
As part of the refugee health project, I have been involved in implementation of a bi-weekly immunization clinic for refugees, where I am responsible for welcoming and directing patients, obtaining critical health information and documents from patients, and using an interpretive phone service to communicate with patients in multiple languages. The purpose of the clinic is to connect refugee families with the vaccines needed to complete their naturalization process and receive their Green Card. As a result, many refugees have been helped to access personal care providers, prescriptions, and English language classes.
I have concentrated my graduate studies in the area of health behavior and health promotion and am interested in public health practice in these areas. Specifically, I am interested in the field of health promotion applied in health equity and health disparities, possibly working with refugee populations, as I have experience doing so in Louisville, Kentucky.
This semester I have been introduced to the area of workplace and employee wellness, and I would welcome the opportunity to learn more about that field in practice as well. I have academic experience in survey-writing and program evaluation, with experience conducting program evaluations for the YMCA and the Louisville Department of Health and Wellness. I have a variety of experiences in multiple disciplines in public health and welcome the opportunity to expand my knowledge in most areas.
I have other experiences, which are described further within this website. I hope you find the documents and pictures interesting or helpful. Enjoy!
